E28 528i · Cosmos Blue METALLIC  · 48k

An unusual opportunity to acquire a very low mileage and unmolested example with great history and having recently had a great deal of investment to bring it up to a fantastic level in terms of reliability, safety and future proofing. This is great opportunity for someone to benefit from the investment of the previous owner. All of the work has been carried out by us and this is a car we know really well. It runs and drive fantastically, is totally solid underneath and wants for nothing in terms of its usability. Cosmetically it would benefit from further investment by next owner which we would gladly take on, but this is a very presentable and 110% useable classic with no work required for a fabulous summer of cruising. Email or call for more details.

Note from the owner.

1985 BMW E28 528iA SE, built in July of that year and first registered on 12 August 1985, supplied by Cooper Bishopsgate to its first owner, Sir Kenneth Butt, second Baronet of Westminster. This 4188 build code car was manufactured to the following specification;

Limited slip differential - an unusual option for an automatic, Electric windows fore and aft, electric tilt and slide sunroof, ABS breaking, on board computer amongst other items.

I bought the car in November 2022 following a long period of storage; my understanding is that the car was retained by Sir Kenneth’s estate following his passing in 1999. During my period of ownership, the car has undergone an extensive programme of recommissioning and maintenance by Classic Bahnstormers, who are the UK’s leading E28 specialist. Whilst it was apparent that the car was in overall very good condition, as befitting its low mileage and long term storage, it would require a very thorough overhaul before being brought back in to use. The objective was to restore the car to full operational functionality in order that it can be driven and enjoyed on a regular basis. This significant investment has been supremely successful and the car has proven to be a pleasure to drive, and has been 100% reliable. This work includes:

Full inspection II service

Full gearbox and LSD oil changes

Engine cooling system flush

New automatic gearbox sump

New auxiliary air valve and hoses

New differential output shaft seals

New brake pressure accumulator

New brake pressure switch’s

New rear ABS rings

New front and rear ABS sensors

New genuine BMW full exhaust system including downpipes and tail pipe chrome trims

New fuel pressure regulator

New fuel tank

New fuel pump

New pitman arm bushes

New near side front track rod tie rod

New near side front ARB drop link

New ignition leads, rotor arm and distributor cap

New fuel, water and air hoses

New air and fuel filters

New thermostat

New spark plugs

New rear hard and flexi brake lines

Underside repair work includes the front and rear jacking points and rear axle mountings, as well as sill repairs

The car remains in totally original specification, other than the fitment of a set of Mahle BBS 7x15 alloy wheels and top quality Goodyear 205/60x15 tyres. I fitted these as the cost of the original Michelin TRX tyres is prohibitive. I will of course include the original TRX wheels with the car as part of the sale.

Whilst the car is now in mechanically excellent condition, it does require a little cosmetic work in order to make perfect the manor of which is detailed in the pictures below. The interior is in really good condition and the dashboard is not cracked, which is an unusual find on an E28!
