We are selling this car on behalf of the current owner who had us recommission it for him after the find was announced. He has had his fun with it and has decided to move it on so someone else can have the pleasure and I must say benefit from his considerable investment. This car is not to be confused with similar cars for sale, although it has not been restored as such it had the most thorough recommission possible with a sum total of £12,000.00 invested to ensure reliability as it was destined to be used daily.

This car is Schwartz not diamond Schwartz metallic which is more unusual, it’s a non metallic so it has a real depth of colour and really accentuates those Claus Luthe designed lines. It looks stonking with the bright chrome. Black can be a challenging colour but this example is very straight and as we recommissioned it, it benefited from a good session with our fabulous paint-less dent removal chap to ensure it was as straight as it could be. At the time of recommission it had a replacement genuine BMW front wing as the original had caught a dent on the leading edge which could not be adequately repaired. The car also had various welding repairs carried out. If you are a regular on our social media or have done your research on us then you will know we have built our reputation on the quality of our welding. We carried out repairs in the usual areas, Front floor corners, jacking points, axle carrier mounting points and inner sill. All of which we documented so the extent and quality of the repair work can be verified. The car had localised areas of paintwork including, the new OSF wing, the drivers door shut, the roof and the NSR quarter panel. This was all well blended so the exterior of the car looks great. It was then throughly detailed and new pin stripes where fitted to set it off.

The car is not without issue bodywork wise. I must stress the car was a recommission, not a restoration and one outstanding item from our original appraisal of the vehicle is a small amount of rust braking through on the off side rear wheel arch. This is a very limited patch of corrosion which has not deteriorated greatly since we sent it off to its current owner a few years back but I would encourage any perspective owner to deal with this sooner rather than later to stop it becoming an expensive repair. The only other notable items are, the OSF chrome section of the bumper has begun to show signs of corrosion, this can be easily polished up to look nice but corrosion will continue to appear and ultimately it needs replacing or re-chroming. Finally the leading edge of the boot lid is showing signs of corrosion. Unusually this is on the edge closest to the back window which only leads me to assume someone has been a little zealous with the polisher and has simply polished through the paint here. We would be happy to discuss and quote for all or any of this work.

Drive train and suspension - What will really set this car apart from any other similar car on the market is the investment that went into these areas. It drives superbly well because quite simple every, bush, every ball joint, every brake component including solid and flexible lines, every fuel line, pump and filter has been replaced for brand new OE items. The engine had every conceivable service item renewed, Timing belt and tensioner, water pump, spark plugs, HT leads, air filter, injectors where removed, sonically cleaned, resealed and refitted, vacuum pipes, distributor cap and rotor arm, coil, relays, fuses this list is endless. The gearbox has undergone a full mega flush by an automatic transmission specialist so it shifts as smoothly as could possibly be. The shock absorbers and springs where deemed perfectly functional at the time so these where not replaced and after a pre sale inspection this is still the case. The car wafts along smoothly and quietly. The tight steering coupled with wonderfully assured braking make for a pleasurable driving experience.

The interior is anthracite velour as is commonly found in these late Lux model cars. The seats are in good condition with no rips or tears. The instrument cluster (a common fail point on these cars) works beautifully and all the electrical items few as there are work perfectly. At the time of recommission all of the electrical systems where gone through, various actuators replaced and both window and mirror motors serviced so all work well. The interior is in great condition but sadly it has succumbed to the common cracked dash, whilst its far from the worst one we have seen there are several cracks non the less. Otherwise the interior is a superb place to be and it presents very well indeed.

In conclusion this car represent a great opportunity to acquire a very well sorted E28 that is truly a get in and go classic! It could easily be used as a chic daily driver or closeted weekend toy. It has been well maintained by it’s owner who has been using his well respected local BMW specialist (who are known to us) for it’s routine servicing and most recently we have given it a thorough pre sale inspection (as we do with all our sale on return vehicles), carried out some minor repairs and adjustments as well as a fresh MOT and four brand new tyres. I can not stress enough the thorough and strategic investment which has been made in this vehicle more than justifies it’s asking price. We commonly see vehicles which people have paid good money for that very quickly after purchase require further investment to make them reliable and solid. Whilst this example is not without issue which we have done our best to explain above it will be miles better than most similar examples available which will easily end up costing the same if not more in the long run.
