This is car 55 of the 187 right hand drive E28 M5’s built worldwide. The car is Polaris Silver over blue highland cloth and is in fantastic overall condition, with low mileage, full history and, I like to think, good pedigree, having been my own vehicle for a period of time.
Car 55 first came to my attention when its owner of 20 years brought it to us to resolve some electrical and bodywork issues. The car had been stored in a very nice garage for quite a period of time and our part initially was to help facilitate these areas of the recommission, however over a period of a few years we eventually got to know this car inside and out, as we methodically improved every aspect, until I eventually purchased the car from the owner.
The engine and drive train in this car are magnificent and have had extensive maintenance both historically and recently. We changed the timing chain and every associated part in 2019, including the oil pump chain and sprocket. This totalled thousands of pounds both in parts and labour. Every, nut, bolt, washer, clip, guide, rail, chain and gasket was replaced, with all genuine parts of course. The car has also benefited from a genuine new BMW radiator, water pump and viscous fan coupling. The M88 engine runs perfectly and pulls strongly, and within seconds transforms this civilised roomy car into the legend that has set the blueprint for the super saloon for decades. The car has also been fitted with a new stainless system from the down pipes back. The exhaust enhances the sound of the vehicle and is not intrusive at low or cruising speeds, but it does give an amazing roar when pushing the twin cams to action. Smiles per miles are guaranteed.
The car drives superbly having benefited from various new bushes including rear subframe mounts, camber limiters, front drop links and control arm bushes. The steering is tight and responsive and the Bilstein based M5 bespoke suspension gives oodles of handling confidence and the limited slip differential allows all that power to put down with the minimum of fuss.
